Draft bill #11426 of July 22, 2024
Cosponsors: 6 MPs from the Servant of the People and Voice factions and the Restoration of Ukraine group with Denys Maslov as the first signatory
Status: adopted in the first reading
Who is affected: High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, High Anti-Corruption Court, and Public Council of International Experts
Summary: the Public Council of International Experts will operate until the selection of judges for the High Anti-Corruption Court, announced by the High Qualification Commission of Judges on November 23, 2023, is completed. This process must be completed no later than November 1, 2025.
What is right: the bill allows the Public Council of International Experts to carry out its functions until the procedure for selecting candidates for the positions of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court is in place.
Why this is important: the six-year term of powers of the Public Council of International Experts expires in October 2024. Currently, this council assists the High Qualification Commission of Judges in conducting the competition for the High Anti-Corruption Court, announced on November 23, 2023. If the council loses its legitimacy, it will be impossible to complete the competition. Therefore, it is crucial to extend its powers.
