Draft bill #11531 of August 28, 2024
Cosponsors: a group of 21 MPs from the factions European Solidarity and Servant of the People and For the Future group with Oleksii Honcharenko as the first signatory
Status: adopted in full
Who is affected: Armed Forces of Ukraine, other military units, law enforcement agencies, and service members
Summary: service members whose half-sibling was killed or went missing during participation in the ATO or in the defense against the armed aggression of russia against Ukraine during martial law will have the right to be discharged from service
What is right: the bill addresses a gap in the legislation and eliminates injustice: now service members who have lost a half-sibling (sharing one parent) will have the same rights as those who have lost a full sibling (sharing both parents). The Family Code stipulates that the degree of kinship among siblings does not depend on the number of shared parents.
Background information: on September 6, 2024, the President signed a law allowing not to mobilize individuals whose close relatives (including full and half-siblings) were killed or went missing while participating in combat operations.
