Who is affected: the Bureau of Economic Security (BES), prosecutors, other law enforcement agencies, businesses, civil-military and military administrations, and insurance companies
Summary:
- BES employees will have the right to request an expert conclusion from specialized state institutions if such a conclusion is needed for a criminal investigation
- if the BES initiates criminal proceedings against an individual or officials of a legal entity, insurance companies will have to provide it with information that is usually confidential. This includes data on insurance events, insurance payments, contract terms, and personal data
- civil-military and military administrations will have to assist the BES in its work
- temporary investigative commissions of the Verkhovna Rada will be allowed to engage BES employees in their investigations.
What is right: cooperation of the BES with other state bodies will facilitate more effective pre-trial investigation.
Background information: on June 28, 2024, the President signed a law on the Reboot of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES). Ukraine made an obligation to the IMF to adopt this law, and it was approved by international partners.
