Presidential decree #486/2024 of July 26, 2024

Decision-maker: the President

Status: in effect since July 26, 2024

Who is affected: doctors subject to military service

Summary: doctors who are conscripted for military service will immediately receive the officer rank (junior lieutenant) even if they don’t have military education. Thus, they will be able to serve as medics.

Why this is important: before, a medic without military education and, therefore, without an officer rank could be assigned to any position (for example, a marksman) regardless of their profession. Now, a medic without military education will hold the rank of junior lieutenant and will be assigned to serve as an officer with a medical specialty.

What is right: doctors conscripted for military service will be able to put to good use their knowledge and skills.
