Draft bill #12021 of September 6, 2024
Cosponsors: 5 MPs from the Servant of the People and independents with Ivan Kalaur as the first signatory
Who is affected: consumers, private entrepreneurs, legal entities, and courts
Status: sent for review to the Committee on Legal Policy
Summary:
- a new type of contract, consumer contract, will be introduced in the Civil Code of Ukraine
- under the consumer contract, the entrepreneur is obliged to sell a product, provide a service, perform work, or temporarily transfer property to a person, and the person must pay for it. This includes, for example, buying a product in a store or getting a haircut at a barbershop.
What is right: a separate definition of the consumer contract will allow for a clear delineation of the rights and obligations of the parties involved, as well as provide additional guarantees for consumers. The bill will foster fair and transparent relations in the market and improve consumer rights protection.
