Draft bill #8011 of September 8, 2022
Cosponsors: a group of 36 MPs from the factions Servant of the people, European Solidarity, Holos, Batkivshchyna, For the Future group, and independent MPs with Oksana Dmytrieva as the first signatory
Status: adopted, awaits to be signed by the Speaker
Who is affected: service members, police officers, and their family members
Summary: service members and police officers carrying out tasks in combat zones will be allowed to participate in the collection, conservation, and storage of reproductive cells free of charge as a safeguard against the loss of their reproductive functions caused by injury, trauma, or concussion.
What is right: the right to post-traumatic parenthood for war participants will be ensured.
What is wrong: the bill does not cover cases when a service member or a police officer is killed. In such cases, it should be allowed to use their biomaterial for posthumous parenthood with the consent of a spouse.
Alternative solution: the draft bill should be amended to allow the use of the biomaterials of service members and police officers posthumously.
