Who is affected: courts and people with disabilities (3 million people) 

Summary: 

  • people with vision, hearing, and cognitive disabilities will have more rights in civil, economic, and administrative processes 
  • people with disabilities will have the right to: 
    • file petitions and motions 
    • give explanations orally, in writing, or via a mediator of their choice 
    • receive information about the content and course of the proceedings in a way that is accessible to them 
    • have personal support while exercising their procedural rights 
  • if a person who mainly or primarily communicates in sign language is participating in a court session, the presence of a sign language interpreter will be mandatory. 

What is right: 

  • the rights of people with disabilities will be protected when dealing with the justice system 
  • discrimination against people with disabilities will be eliminated.
