Who is affected: local councilors, voters, electoral district residents, and courts 

Summary of the bill: local councilors will be able: 

  • to initiate legal proceedings in court to protect the interests of voters and the powers of local councilors 
  • to issue acts and characteristics in response to requests from voters. 

What is wrong: 

  • politicians will be tempted to abuse their right to sue and put pressure on courts. It is also not entirely clear on what grounds and in which cases local councilors will have the right to initiate legal proceedings 
  • it is unclear what “acts and characteristics in response to requests from voters” are, what legal force such acts will have, and what their purpose is. 

Alternative solution: to withdraw the draft bill.
